Designed by Bob Riley of Riley & Scott
and built by Pratt & Miller, Chassis 003 is the third
of four Intrepids built. Chassis 003 was finished on September
20, 1991. The Intrepid is known for its massive amount of
downforce. It can pull in excess of 3.5 G’s of corning
force. Its large amount of downforce gives the car amazing
cornering speeds but hurts top speed. At Watkins Glen International
Raceway in 1991, the Intrepids were only able to achieve speeds
on the straights of 178 MPH while the Porsches were hitting
in excess of 212 MPH. Despite this speed differentiation,
the Intrepids were less than one half second slower than the
Porsches! 003 has been updated w/ modern, EFI fuel injection
system including data acquisition.
